VP Leni in Bataan: “Mas malakas ang lakas ng pinagkaisang taumbayan”

Presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo returned to Bataan on Tuesday, April 19, for the Bayanihan Bataan Grand People’s Rally held at Sitio Maluang, Cupang Proper in Balanga City, buoyed by the people’s show of support.

The Bataan Philippine National Police (PNP) and the local organizers said that the people’s rally mustered a 65,000- strong crowd.

Robredo admitted she did not expect a huge turnout at the rally, given that she lost by a large margin in the province in the 2016 vice presidential election. She paid tribute to the people’s tenacity to flight for a clean and honest government, saying that love for country and a vision for a better future are why people today stand united, evident in the rallies.

The Bataan rally showcased a “Bayanihan”- inspired performance where the cast, dressed to represent the different sectors of society, danced to “Liwanag sa Dilim”. Robredo and Pangilinan made their entrance emerging for a nipa hut as part of the performance.

The lack of support from the province’s local officials also did not deter Robredo and the people.

Robredo said that having an honest government can be achieved, as exemplified by the performance of the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

The Commission on Audit has given the OVP the highest audit rating for three years in a row.

Because of Robredo’s zero-corruption policy, the OVP was able to send relief goods to calamity-stricken areas and assist in their rehabilitation, provide livelihood projects to marginalized communities, and swiftly implement COVID-19 pandemic response initiatives despite the office’s limited budget. Most of these programs were implemented in partnership with the private sector. [End]
